Is your website ready for Google’s Mobile First index? These are the top 3 aspects you need to cover!
A few weeks ago, we were talking about Google’s plans begin testing its Mobile first index. Well, time passed and the search engine giant is already testing it! For those of you who aren’t aware of what this means, we’ll try to keep it short: when displaying search results, Google will first check the mobile version of a business site, since the majority of searches are now done on mobile.
Currently, they claim it’s just an experiment, but this doesn’t mean that, in the near future, rankings will be determined by how good the mobile version of your website is! And you don’t want to fall on the second page, right?
In order to make sure that the Mobile First index doesn’t affect you, we’ve put together a short list with some of the most important aspects you need to cover!
1. Loading speed - Keep it under 2 seconds
By far the most important factor nowadays, if you ask us! And, apparently, Google thinks the same. If your sites take more to load, you risk losing visitors and, of course, conversions. Forget about including large images or unnecessary characters, as well as redirects, and you should be all good.
2. Responsive design - Make sure it works properly
It doesn’t matter if your website is blazing fast when the Mobile First update starts rolling up if it’s not using a responsive design. You need to offer your visitors a top notch experience and design this version with their finger in mind! That’s right, they need to be able to scroll and tap with ease, otherwise they’ll start complaining about your site being hard to use. And…well, leave.
3. Content - It has to be the same on both versions of the site
Finally, another important aspect you should consider is the content. Even though the mobile version of the website is lighter and loads very fast, it must have the same content as the desktop version, otherwise a bit slower, in most cases. Google will love this!
